Go Green

Our School Mission emphasizes that we “take an active, responsible part in shaping our society and saving the world”. The Go Green policy is blended with this idea where we look at ways and means of reducing all kinds of wastage, re-using materials in creative ways and recycling other materials which are of no use to us.

Printing paper is being re-used for many years which not only amounted to a huge financial saving for the school, but also heightened the awareness in this regard. In conjunction with this, we have terminated the practice of printing messages, newsletters or any form of communication with parents and the wider NIS community, thus resulting in a further reduction of printing paper usage. Furthermore, we initiated the process of digitizing the whole school’s teaching program through the use of Chrome Books from Grade 3 to Grade 12. We also use the powerful Powerschool Software throughout the school to record student work, achievement progress, attendance and communication with parents. Student projects, assignments, notifications attendance and test information are posted on Google Classroom. Most examinations and tests are now done on line using the Chrome Books to further minimize the use of printed paper. Each classroom and office has a special container to deposit all recyclable and re-usable paper.
During the run-ups to the Annual Family Day, the drama productions and National Day celebrations, a wide range of materials and accessories are re-used for the displays, construction of props, stage sets and decorations. This is done by large numbers of students and teachers in close cooperation and collaboration between the Art Department and the teams working on these projects.

Students are constantly being made aware of their responsibility towards protecting their environment, albeit natural or man-made. Other awareness campaigns in this regard are ongoing.
